The NOVA Subscription Series is the centerpiece of the NOVA Chamber Music Series, performed in beautiful Libby Gardner Hall at the University of Utah. Six (6) concerts throughout the season feature NOVA's trademark innovative mix of beloved chamber music classics with a vibrant array of newer works. The Subscription Series celebrates the vast repertoire of chamber music as performed by artists from Utah and beyond.

Early Brahms and a World Premiere - November 6, 2016
Featuring Utah Symphony Music Director Thierry Fischer, the Madeleine Choir School Choristers, and Utah Chamber Artists in stunningly gorgeous and inventive works by Brahms, including Begräbnisgesang op. 13, Four Songs for children’s choir, harp, and horns, op. 17, and the G Minor Piano Quartet opus 25. Also on this program is a brand new piccolo concerto composed for Caitlyn Valovick Moore by Simon Holt.
A Holiday in Paris - December 4, 2016
NOVA welcomes new Utah Symphony Concertmaster Madeline Adkins performing works by Poulenc and Messiaen. Several recent works by spectral composers are offered, including Tristan Murail’s Vampyr! for solo electric guitar. Saint-Saëns’ beloved and entertaining Carnival of the Animals is heard in its original version for 11 instruments, featuring an outstanding lineup of musicians from the Utah Symphony.
Soprano Celena Shafer sings a dazzling and moving cycle of songs by Strauss, while a string quartet performs Webern's lush Langsamer Satz. Utah Symphony principal cello Rainer Eudeikis joins NOVA Artistic Director Jason Hardink in Michael Hersch's riveting and intense Two Pieces for Cello and Piano, paired with a performance of Palestrinas Missa Brevis by Utah’s premiere early music choir, Cantorum Chamber Choir.Charles Ives and the Michigan School - February 12, 2017
The first concert in a week celebrating the music and legacy of American composer Charles Ives, presented in collaboration with the Utah Symphony, this event features guest pianist Brian Connelly, BYU violin professor Alexander Woods, and Principal Tabernacle Organist Richard Elliott. NOVA welcomes several new musicians to Utah: distinguished pianist Frank Weinstock, Professor Emeritus of Piano at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and Elizabeth Beilman, former Principal Viola at the Sarasota Orchestra and the newest member of the Utah Symphony viola section. Virtuoso violinists and violists perform music written at the limit of possibility for their instruments by Paganini and American composer Eric Wubbels. Featured musicians include violinists Kathryn Eberle, Aubrey Woods, Robert Waters, and violists Brant Bayless, Elizabeth Beilman, Joel Gibbs, and Carl Johansen. Also on the program, Kathryn Eberle and Brant Bayless collaborate on Mozart’s B-flat Duo for Violin and Viola, while Alex Martin offers a brilliant finale to our season as the featured soloist in Mozart’s Third Violin Concerto.
