Matthew Johnson

Matthew Johnson is Associate Principal Cellist of the Utah Symphony, a position he has held since 2010. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he studied with Ron Leonard and Andrew Shulman. Prior to his appointment with the Utah Symphony, Matthew was a member of the Kansas City Symphony for six seasons. He has also performed in music festivals such as the Sarasota Music Festival and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Germany, where he served as principal cellist.

An avid chamber musician, Mr. Johnson has collaborated with such artists as Patricia Kopatchinskaja, composers Steve Reich and Harrison Birtwistle, and dancer Misty Copeland.
